In May 2013, the EGSS Council passed a motion denouncing municipal by-law P6 and police repression in Montreal, standing in solidarity with both the Coalition Contre P-6 and the CLAC statement, “Solidarity against police repression in Montreal: We will not submit to the municipal by-law P6”.
By-law P-6 was amended during the 2012 student strike, making it illegal to participate in a demonstration with one’s face covered, making it mandatory to submit an itinerary for a demonstration to the police in advance, and increasing the fine for disobeying the by-law from $100 to $500 (with fees each ticket totals $637).

On November 22nd, 2013 Jaggi Singh submitted a constitutional challenge regarding by-law P-6 to the municipal court. The appendixes attached to the challenge list all groups and associations standing in solidarity against police repression and by-law P-6, including the Council of the Education Graduate Student’s Society (McGill University). The Superior Court is also examining the constitutionality of the by-law based on a challenge filed by Villeneuve in June 2012, amended in September 2013.
