Dear EGSS members,
Earlier this year, EGSS met with the office of the Dean, and we asked for student representation on academic hiring committees. As a result, Dean Rassier sent out the following memo to the deans of all three departments, ECP, KPE, and ECP, that we are sharing with you in the interest of transparency.

Dear Colleagues,

I am writing to you with respect to the University’s academic recruitment practices. The University’s “Regulations Relating to the Employment of Tenure Track and Tenured Academic Staff”, section 6.2 of the regulations states that “all appointments for new tenure track and tenured academic staff shall be made by the Provost upon the recommendation of the Dean. These appointments are recommended to the Dean by the Departmental Chair and an appropriate departmental committee.” Further to that, I would like to suggest that Departmental Chairs include student representation on departmental search committees, when selecting new tenure track and tenured academic staff.
We invite you to communicate with us if you have any questions or comments regarding this memo.
Sincerely,
EGSS
