EGSS is excited to announce the second Speaker Series Travel Award for the upcoming 2015-2016 academic year.
This award is open to all EGSS members who are conducting research and with the intention to present this research at a peer-reviewed conference. As previous winners, Haley Vininsky and Mitchell McLarnon, selected students will receive a monetary award and the opportunity to present their research in front of other graduate students, faculty members and researchers.
There will be four events planned for the upcoming academic year. Each event will have a common theme with an invited expert in the field. In addition, for each speaker series event hosted 1 Master’s student and 1 PhD student will be selected to present their research and receive a monetary award.
The MA student is expected to present their research (maximum 8 min – approximately 2 min for questions) while the PhD student is expected to present their researcher (maximum 10 minutes – approximately 2 min for questions).
This award is designed to promote student research and bolster your academic CV as a peer-reviewed, invited presentation. Award recipients also will receive valuable feedback for upcoming conference presentations.

Students must submit a completed application by Monday February 1, at noon found here: EGSS Speaker Series Application Form
A completed application includes a:
- General Info (name, department, etc.)
- 500 word (maximum) abstract describing the research with intro, methods, results (if applicable) and discussion or implications sections.
- 250 word (max) statement describing the relation to the theme.
Applications will be judged based on:
- quality and significance of proposed research
- relevance to theme
